There are two versions of this product:

The one listed in this auction is the ultimate TOSLINK digital audio output.   This allows you to listen/record the direct digital signal as sent by the satellite.  There is no way to get better audio quality.  The TOSLINK connector is connected to you computer via fiber optic cable.  This version supports both digital (TOSLINK) and analog (RCA) connection to your computer.  Please click on "See other auctions from this seller" for the listing for the analog version.  The TOSLIINK adapter is installed and tested before shipping.

No Hum!

Some of the other competing solutions available have a ground loop problem - creating a nasty humming sound in your audio.  The Direct PCR incorporates internal ground loop isolation to ensure a clean audio signal.

Beware:

There are many imitations of this product out there.  The original is only available here.  The imitations leave out several important features.   Below is a comparison matrix:

(1) - Only the DirectPCR includes a sophisticated microcontroller to directly communicate with the XMDirect tuner module and configure it for use as a PCR.  Other products rely on a special program that you must run on your PC each time you power up the XMDirect.  This can be problematic and make your installation unreliable.  The DirectPCR is truly plug and play.

(2) - This is an estimate of your "Total Cost" after you go through the hassle of going out and finding a XMDirect tuner module on your own.  Price is based on the starting price of the auction - you may end up paying more for the imitations depending on the auction final value.  The DirectPCR is a fixed price and includes a XMDirect tuner module - everything you need to get started is in the box.  The XMDirect tuner module is a $50 value.

What is the XMDirect?

The XMDirect (Model #XMD1000) is intended to be plugged into factory car stereos so that they can tune XM Radio on the factory head unit.  The DirectPCR is an adapter that converts this radio into a PCR compatible device.   It converts the signaling to be fully USB compliant and ensures that all popular software works - just as if it were a PCR.

Better audio quality:

XM Satellite radio is transmitted digitally from the satellites.  Just before the audio exits the PCR or the XMDirect it goes through what is know as a DAC (Digital to analog converter).   The important thing to know is that the DAC in the XMDirect is much higher quality than the DAC that is in the original PCR.   What this means to you is that the audio quality from a XMDirect is much higher quality than the audio quality from the original PCR.  You can actually hear the difference!
